{Simple Starts: From Scraps to Stuffing}

To follow along,  print out the pattern and grab the following:

To see exactly how much fabric you'll need, just check out the pattern pieces. FYI: All of the pieces fit on one printable 81/2 X 11" sheet.

   -Soft fabric for the front and back

   -Scraps of fabric for the eyes, wings, and beak {FYI: My wings are made of Amy Butler fabric.} 

   -Approx 10” of string/ribbon for the legs {5” for each leg-depending on how long you want them}

   -Stuffing

Aw, look at you!

Snow Birdy + Every Minute Counts

{Heading South}

This little snow birdy is heading out.  Forget Utah and its chilly snow.  This owl gal is ready for fun in the the sun. Melissa  -my old sweet mission buddy and resident of AZ-  if you read this you'd better get ready! The owl I promised you months ago is on her way! 

I may be freezing, but sewing is such a warm, cozy activity on a cold winter nights.  Need a little project to work on as you listen to your happy holiday tunes?  Here's my easy pattern and tutorial for this sweet little birdy!

{24 HRS}
Yesterday we had a really great treat! Recognize these guys in the picture below?  Yes, that's the master of the blog Trey and Lucy--my sister in law Tanya.

The kids?  Trey and Lucy themselves.

Tanya's little brother married a gal from these parts and so they came out for the reception! Unfortunately, they could only stay for 24 hours, but we made of most of it!

As you can imagine, the kids couldn't get enough of eachother...

Even Aunt Margie and my other sister Stooph {not pictured} came up from Southern Utah for the festivites!

And those that know my family here's a game for you...guess which sibling this cute little guy belongs to:

If you said Peter...you were WRONG.  This is Matt's little man Ezra. 
{And baby boy #2 is due in a few weeks!}

Though our time together was short, it was better than no time at all...

Oven "Mini-Mitt" pattern&tutorial

{Mini-Mitts}
Are you ready for an EASY, FUN little project just in time for mother's day? These little mini oven mitts will be sure to put a smile on that face of yours! {Or if not the oven mitt, you have to make these YUMMY bread twists sometime--that should do the trick!}

{Background} As usual I have to tell you the method behind my madness. I'm sure you're thinking, what in the world is a mini oven mitt?! Well, let me explain...

I was trying to make an oval oven mitt from a tutorial I found and it turned out so crappy I won't even show you a picture. However, I did learn a few things from the experience:

1) You can buy the "padding" aka a heat resistant material called Insul Bright--for the inside of an oven mitt at your fabric store! I didn't know this. I just asked the Joann's lady and she had it behind the counter and you can get it by the yard! {Don't ask me why it was behind the counter...maybe its worth more than we think!;)}

2)Rectangles are MUCH easier to sew than ovals or circles. Seriously. And much less frustrating. {Right Janeen?:)}

3)Making bias tape isn't too bad! If you're wondering what Bias Tape is I hear ya. A year ago I had no idea what it was, but I'm think it pretty cool stuff now!

The picture below should give you and idea. As far I can tell you use it around edges to make a "clean" look. You can get it at your local fabric store. 4) I thought making a smaller oven mitt would be cute, fun, and practical. However, I do have to tell you that if you or someone in your kitchen has larger hands this mini-mitt may not be the best idea. But don't you fret. I included a "regular" size pattern for the oven mitt as well. {I know, you love me.:)}

Grab these goodies:

• Fabric {See the pattern for how much you will need}
• Bias Tape {You can either buy or make it for this pattern. I used both.}
• Insul-Bright or another heat-proof material for the inside of the mitt

Just print out the pattern & and off we go!
